Richmond is coming up with two grocery store chains, The Fresh Market Inc and German discount chain, Aldi.
Fresh Market is on the expansion spree with its new store opening up in Chesterfield County this month, which marks the company's 14th store in Virginia. The newest store will open at 4600 Commonwealth Center Parkway, in the Commonwealth Center shopping center, off U.S. 360.
Rick Anicetti, the company’s CEO in a statement said that they are excited to open the new store in Chesterfield County. They also plan to expand into Virginia. The new store opens on October 28 at 8 am. The inauguration will be done in a grandeur style and include chef demonstrations, food samplings and drawings for Fresh Market gift cards.
The store will be massive with an area of 23,000 square foot. It will be including a wide variety services such as fresh food, ready to serve entrees, full service meat counter and bakery items among many other things. It will also include a large collection of more than 200 imported and domestic cheeses and a produce department with a large organic selection.
The new store will give new job opportunities of about 90 jobs approximately which will be filled by the locals as reported by Fresh Market. They are partnering with FeedMore by providing regular food donations. Fresh Market which is based in Greensboro, currently operates 178 stores in 27 states.
German Discount store, Aldi has purchased about 2.2 acres from Atack WB Investors LLC at Broad Hill Centre on West Broad Street in Henrico County. This property will be adjacent to 350,000 square feet mixed use project. This project being developed by NV Retail Inc will be West Broad Marketplace. The anchor tenants would be Wegmans grocery store and Cabela's, which is a specialty outdoors retailer. Bruce Bigger of Cushman & Wakefield, Thalhimer and Darren Wood of The Providence Group handled the sale negotiations on behalf of Aldi.
Aldi has been active in the Richmond area at several areas. It has opened two stores in April in Henrico County and Colonial Heights. It has recently leased a 17,000 square feet of space at Chippenham Forest Square at 7319 Forest Hill Ave. in Richmond.
Aldi has other plans in the pipeline. It has planned for locations in the Staples Mill Shopping center in Henrico, in the Hanover Village shopping center in Hanover County, at a site off the Boulevard near West Broad Street in Richmond and at the intersection of Robious Road and Mall Drive in Chesterfield County. It also has signed a 21,000 Sq Ft lease for a location in Roanoke.
