Founded in 1971 in Austin, Texas, Schlotzsky’s was famous for their one sandwich, The Original, “a unique combination of 13 ingredients served on toasted house-made sourdough bread,” (schlotzskys.com). Now known for their specialty sandwiches, mac and cheese, gourmet pizzas, flatbread, soups and salads and more and is self described as “Austin Inspired” and boasts a well known fresh-baked-from-scratch signature recipe for their bread.
Since it’s opening over forty-five years ago, Schlotzsky’s has expanded to span throughout 35 states, with plans to expand further throughout the United States and Internationally. In late 2006, FOCUS Brands, an Atlanta, Georgia based franchisor, purchased Schlotzsky’s and since 2007, Kelly Roddy has been leading the Schlotzsky’s team as President of the brand and has worked to launch new programs and a systemwide rebranding effort (FOCUSbrands.com).
