Nordstrom Inc, a leading fashion specialty retailer announced it has plans to open a discount Nordstrom Rack in Coddington Mall in Santa Rosa, California by fall of 2016.

The new store at a prime location, just North of Macy’s is estimated to be approximately 31,000 sq ft in size. The property is co-owned by Simon and Codding Enterprises and with the opening of the new store it will be the fourteenth Rack in Northern California and the first of its kind in Sonoma.

Nordstrom has been operating in Northern California for some years now with an overwhelming response from their customers. They have been very keen on opening this store to serve customers in Sonoma. Geevy Thomas President of Nordstrom Rack tells that they are excited about the new store at Coddington Mall as they look forward to serve customers with great brands with quality services.

Nordstrom Rack will joining other retail majors like Macy’s, JC Pennys and Target among others along with a variety of dining services in Coddington Mall which is strategically located just west of Highway 101.

Spokesperson for Codding Enterprises Kirstie Moore who is equally thrilled tells this has been a long awaited project and a part of the mall’s ongoing redevelopment. The Codding group had been trying for many years to bring the retailer to their mall but it was only recently in 2005 when the family sold half of their interests to Simon Properties that they could realize their dreams and see it happen.

The partnership has it made it possible to bring retailers like Wholesale Foods, Chipotle Mexican Grill and BJ’s Restaurant & Brew house into the mall thereby making it an upscale place to shop. This major development will further help in bringing upscale tenants in the future.

Construction of the new building will begin in October 2015 and is expected to be up and running by September 2016. The existing merchants will either be moving to new locations or will be out of business, however majority of them are hoping that the footfall will increase with the major development and help them with their business. A new tower shaped entrance on the west side of the building will also be constructed.

Nordstrom which is based in Seattle has 301 stores including 116 full department stores and 178 Nordstrom Rack stores which sell upscale clothing, footwear, jewellery and home-wares at 30 to 70% discount.

The new Nordstrom Rack will be the final new national anchor tenant for the mall’s renovation.
