Company Overview
Carter's, started in 1865 and based in Atlanta, Georgia, is now one of the largest infant, newborn, baby, toddler and children's clothing stores in the United States and Canada. In fact, the brand sells more than 10 products for every baby born in the United States (Carters.com). In addition to the 600 store locations, Carter's brands are sold in retail stores including Belks, JCPenney, Kohl's, BuyBuy Baby, Macy's and Sears, to name a few. The brand has also been known to be inventive with their designs, resulting in not only fun and trendy clothing, shoes and accessories, but functional ones too, such as "Handi-Cuff" mitten sleeves.
Carter's serves as parent company to OshKosh B'Gosh, Skip-Hop, Just One You and Genuine Kids; all of which cater to the babies, toddler and children demographic. Additionally, their philosophy aligns with the idea that "childhood is a celebration, and the colorful prints and cute characters we design are inspired by the joy and love children bring into out lives. [They] celebrate childhood by supporting babies, children, and families with thoughtful designs, quality materials and construction, and convenient shopping options," (Carter's). Michael D. Casey, who joined the Carter's team in 1993, is their current CEO.
Over time, Carter's has developed their Carter's Cares program which looks to develop practices and "opportunities to nurture and protect children and to build communities in which they can thrive," (Carter's). The company looks to create "meaningful and positive change" by implementing certain practices, procedures and opportunities in all facets of their business: products, customers, employees and the Carter's Quality Partners.
