Started in the 50s in a town in Cape Cod, Massachusetts called Yarmouthport, Christmas Tree Shops first location was actually in a bard and was an ornament centric gift shop. Originally called The Christmas Tree Gift Shops, the store was later bought in the 70s by Chuck and Doreen Bilezikian and their sons. The family decided to then change the store's trajectory and niche by expanding their merchandise to include other "one-of-a-kind" items at "value prices," (Christmas Tree Shops), taking them one step closer to the brand we know today.
By the time the 80s rolled around Christmas Tree Shops had already expanded throughout Cape Cod and decided to open up their first location elsewhere, a move that proved to be a good idea as they continued to grow throughout New England. The store became synonymous with vacation; if you were in the area and wanted a trinket to commemorate your time or to gift a family or friend, Christmas Tree Shop was the place to go. The brand thrived under this particular niche for an additional two decades, and in the mid-2000s big-box retailers, Bed Bath & Beyond, inducted the brand into their corporation and began to expand Christmas Tree Shops locations nationwide.
