About Blink Fitness

Blink Fitness, founded in 2011 by Equinox Group, was created to offer an affordable and accessible gym experience tailored for everyday individuals. The brand quickly established itself as a staple in New York City and expanded its presence across the Northeast and into select other U.S. markets. Blink Fitness distinguished itself by providing a straightforward fitness environment, devoid of the luxury elements associated with its parent company's high-end clubs.

As of July 2023, Blink operated 104 locations, with a footprint that included New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Texas. In 2019, the company launched a franchise program aimed at expanding its reach with plans for an additional 300 gyms across the United States. Blink's gyms were known for their bright, welcoming atmospheres, modern equipment, and a unique "Mood Above Muscle" philosophy that prioritized inclusivity and mental well-being alongside physical fitness.

However, in late 2023, Blink Fitness faced financial challenges, filing for bankruptcy under the weight of $280 million in debt. This led to its acquisition by PureGym, a prominent fitness operator based in the UK, for $121 million. The transition to PureGym branding began in early 2024, with existing Blink locations being rebranded and operations streamlined under the new ownership. By November 2025, the Blink Fitness brand ceased to exist, with all U.S. locations operating under the PureGym name.

For commercial real estate professionals, Blink Fitness was notable for its scale, credibility, and adaptable store formats. These ranged from urban storefronts to suburban strip centers, typically occupying spaces between 12,000 and 20,000 square feet. The brand left a lasting legacy by significantly enhancing access to affordable fitness and demonstrating a successful model for rapid expansion across multiple markets.
