About Boloco
Boloco, a fast-casual restaurant brand based in Boston, is renowned for its globally inspired burritos, bowls, and wraps. The company was founded in 1997 by Adam Liebman, Gregg Harris, and John Pepper, originally opening as 'The Wrap' near Boston University. It quickly gained popularity due to its customizable menu and dedication to fresh, high-quality ingredients. In the early 2000s, the brand rebranded as Boloco, which stands for Boston Local Company, and expanded throughout New England, eventually reaching over 20 locations across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Washington, D.C.
Boloco distinguished itself in the fast-casual dining scene with its innovative practices, including the early adoption of sustainable methods and a living wage initiative for its employees. However, as of November 2025, the company has consolidated its operations to a single location at 50 Congress Street in Boston. This shift is a result of changing market conditions and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to a significant downsizing from its previous peak.
Today, Boloco is independently owned, operating without a parent company or franchise model. Its current focus is on maintaining its flagship store in downtown Boston, with no plans for expansion at this time. Despite its reduced footprint, Boloco remains a respected name in the Boston market, known for its commitment to community engagement and responsible business practices. Its history of operating in high-traffic urban and campus locations, along with its adaptable store formats, continues to make Boloco a credible tenant option for select urban retail environments.
