Church’s Chicken

Church's Texas Chicken, originally known as Church's Fried Chicken To-Go, was founded in 1952 by George W. Church Sr. in San Antonio, Texas. Starting with a single location across from the Alamo, the restaurant quickly became known for its hand-battered, double-breaded fried chicken, honey-butter biscuits, and classic Southern sides. By 1962, the business had expanded to eight locations, and in 1965, it introduced a proprietary marinade that became a signature element of its menu.

As of October 2025, Church's Texas Chicken operates more than 1,400 locations across 22 countries, with a strong presence in the United States, Latin America, the Middle East, and Asia. The company is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, and since 2021, it has been owned by High Bluff Capital Partners and FS Investments. Over the past five years, the brand has focused on expanding its drive-thru and off-premise formats, aligning with changing consumer preferences and enhancing its appeal in high-growth regions.
