About Doctors Express
Doctors Express began its journey in 2005 in Towson, Maryland, emerging as one of the pioneering national urgent care franchise brands in the United States. The company quickly gained recognition for providing accessible, non-emergency healthcare services to both adults and children. By 2012, it had expanded to over 50 locations across more than 25 states, strategically focusing on suburban and urban areas where the demand for convenient and cost-effective healthcare was on the rise.
In April 2015, Doctors Express was acquired by American Family Care (AFC), a significant player in the urgent care industry. This acquisition led to the rebranding of all Doctors Express locations under the AFC Urgent Care name. The move was part of AFC's broader strategy to unify the fragmented urgent care market under a single, national brand, thereby expanding its geographic reach.
As of April 2015, Doctors Express had established a solid presence with 50 locations. Since then, the brand has evolved significantly. Today, all former Doctors Express clinics operate as AFC Urgent Care centers, contributing to a network of over 300 locations nationwide. This growth reflects AFC's commitment to expanding its footprint in high-demand suburban and urban markets across the United States.
The legacy of Doctors Express is evident in its innovative franchise model, which played a crucial role in shaping the urgent care landscape. Its transition into AFC Urgent Care highlights a key milestone in the industry's consolidation, offering scalable, retail-oriented healthcare formats. These centers continue to draw attention from commercial real estate professionals due to their adaptability and the consistent demand for retail healthcare.
