Fuzzy’s Taco Shop is a fast-casual restaurant brand known for its Baja-style Mexican menu, featuring tacos, burritos, and margaritas in a relaxed, welcoming setting. The company began in 2001, when Paul Willis and Chef Steve Mitchell opened the first location near Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. What started as a local favorite quickly gained traction, especially with college students and the surrounding community.

A pivotal moment in the company’s history came in 2003, when Chuck and Alan Bush acquired the original shop. They expanded the concept, opening a second restaurant in 2007 and launching franchising soon after. This approach fueled steady growth, with Fuzzy’s reaching 50 locations by 2012 and celebrating its 100th opening in 2016. That same year, the brand attracted investment from NRD Capital Management, which provided additional resources for expansion.

In December 2022, Fuzzy’s Taco Shop was acquired by Dine Brands Global, the parent company of Applebee’s and IHOP. This move integrated Fuzzy’s into a large, established restaurant portfolio and brought new momentum to its development strategy. As of June 2025, Fuzzy’s operates 113 locations across 15 states, with a strong presence in Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Florida, and a growing footprint in both suburban and urban areas.

Over the past five years, Fuzzy’s has continued to evolve, introducing new formats such as the “Tacos and Margs” concept. These locations offer tableside service, expanded beverage options, and community-focused events, reflecting the brand’s willingness to adapt and innovate. The company remains committed to growth, with recent openings in Houston and other Texas markets, and ongoing efforts to enter new states and urban centers. Fuzzy’s is actively seeking franchise partners and is recognized for its adaptable store formats and strong brand recognition, making it a reliable tenant for a range of retail and mixed-use environments.
