The company began in April 1964, when John Sparks opened the first location in Decatur, Georgia, aiming to create a welcoming place for friends and families to gather after local football games. After starting to franchise in 1966, Huddle House expanded steadily, reaching nearly 400 locations by the late 2010s. A significant milestone came in 2019, when the company acquired Perkins Restaurant & Bakery, broadening its portfolio and market reach. In May 2020, Huddle House became part of Ascent Hospitality Management, which continues to guide its growth and modernization.

As of April 2024, Huddle House operates 272 restaurants across 21 states, with a strong presence in the South and Midwest, including Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Tennessee, and the Carolinas. Over the past five years, the brand has actively evolved its approach. Huddle House is rolling out new quick-service and walk-up formats, targeting not only suburban and urban neighborhoods but also nontraditional venues such as airports and college campuses.
