About Jollibee Group

Company overview and description

Jollibee Group is a Philippine-based restaurant company that operates, franchises, and licenses a large portfolio of foodservice brands across quick-service, fast-casual, bakery-cafe, and coffee and tea concepts. Today the group runs more than 10,000 restaurants worldwide under homegrown banners such as Jollibee, Chowking, Greenwich, Red Ribbon, Mang Inasal, Yonghe King, Hong Zhuang Yuan and Smashburger, alongside acquired and partner brands including Highlands Coffee, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Milksha, Compose Coffee and Tim Ho Wan. Its stores are located across the Philippines, Greater China, North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and a range of emerging markets.

The company’s origins go back to a small ice cream parlor opened in 1975 by founder Tony Tan Caktiong and his family in the Philippines. As customers began asking for more substantial options, the business shifted into serving hot meals and sandwiches, which quickly found a loyal following. Jollibee was formally incorporated in 1978 and reorganized as Jollibee Foods Corporation as it scaled across the country. A major milestone came in 1993 when the company listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange, giving it access to capital that supported faster new store development and acquisitions. Over the next several decades, it used that platform to build a multi-brand international business, expanding first from its domestic base and then into the United States, China, Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

As of September 2025, the Jollibee Group operates 10,304 stores worldwide, with roughly one-third of the network in the Philippines and the balance across international markets. The portfolio includes sizable coffee and tea platforms such as Highlands Coffee in Vietnam, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Milksha and the fast-growing Compose Coffee chain, alongside its core quick-service brands. The company continues to favor an asset-light approach, with most recent openings developed by franchise partners, which supports rapid entry into new markets and a wide range of locations and formats.

Over the past five years, the group has evolved from a primarily quick-service, Philippines-led operator into a broader global platform with a stronger tilt toward coffee, tea and specialty beverage concepts. It has stepped up international growth in North America, the Middle East, China and key Southeast Asian corridors while deepening its presence in its home market with brands like Jollibee and Mang Inasal in both major cities and provincial areas. The addition and scaling of concepts such as Compose Coffee and Milksha, combined with ongoing improvements at brands like Smashburger, reflect a strategy that balances local favorites with concepts that travel well across borders.

For landlords, brokers and developers, Jollibee Group functions as a large, diversified tenant with brands that can fit a variety of trade areas and site types. Its mix of quick-service restaurants, bakeries, coffee chains and casual dining formats allows it to occupy freestanding pads with drive-thru, inline and mall units, transport-oriented locations and dense urban storefronts. The company’s active expansion in the Philippines, China, the United States, Canada, Vietnam and key Middle Eastern markets, together with its reliance on experienced franchisees and focus on high-traffic nodes, supports a steady pipeline of demand for new locations in both mature business districts and emerging corridors.
