About Kitchen Collection
Kitchen Collection began in 1982 as a specialty retailer offering kitchenware, small appliances, and culinary tools to value-focused shoppers across the United States. The company built its reputation by providing an accessible mix of branded and exclusive products, often in outlet malls and regional shopping centers. Over the years, Kitchen Collection expanded steadily, at one point operating more than 200 stores and maintaining a notable presence in the Midwest from its headquarters in Chillicothe, Ohio.
As retail trends shifted and consumer preferences evolved, Kitchen Collection adjusted its footprint, scaling back to approximately 160 stores by 2018. The company’s nearly four-decade run concluded when it announced the closure of all remaining locations in October 2019, citing declining foot traffic and the broader move toward e-commerce. All retail operations ceased by December 31, 2019. As of December 2019, Kitchen Collection no longer operated any physical stores, and there has been no subsequent expansion or new site activity.
Following the closures, the brand and select product lines were absorbed by Hamilton Beach Brands Holding Company, its parent organization. While Kitchen Collection no longer maintains a retail or online presence, its legacy endures through private-label products and occasional branded items offered under the Hamilton Beach umbrella in major retailers. The company’s history serves as a reference point for the evolution of specialty retail, particularly within the kitchenware segment, and illustrates the challenges faced by brick-and-mortar chains in adapting to changing market dynamics.
