About Murphy USA
Murphy USA is an independent retailer specializing in fuel and convenience merchandise, operating 1,700 stores across 27 states as of November 2025. The company began in 1996 as part of Murphy Oil Corporation and became a standalone, publicly traded business in 2013 following a corporate spin-off. Initially, Murphy USA concentrated on sites adjacent to Walmart Supercenters, but over the past decade, it has broadened its approach to include high-traffic corridors and standalone properties, allowing for greater flexibility in site selection and market entry.
A significant milestone in Murphy USA’s evolution came in 2021 with the acquisition of QuickChek, a well-established convenience and foodservice operator in the Northeast. This move not only expanded Murphy USA’s presence into new markets but also introduced a fresh food-focused format to its portfolio, complementing its existing Murphy Express and Murphy USA banners. The company’s Murphy Express stores offer a wider array of in-store products and made-to-order food, reflecting ongoing efforts to diversify its offerings and enhance the customer experience.
Over the past five years, Murphy USA has maintained an active growth strategy, investing in new store construction, remodels, and selective acquisitions. The company is particularly focused on expanding in the Southeast, Southwest, Midwest, and Northeast, targeting locations with strong traffic and proximity to major retailers. Murphy USA continues to invest in both its Murphy Express and QuickChek formats, aiming to strengthen its geographic reach and foodservice capabilities.
As of late 2025, Murphy USA is led by President and CEO Mindy West, who took over from Andrew Clyde in January. The company remains committed to disciplined capital allocation, balancing shareholder returns with network growth. With a workforce exceeding 17,000 and annual revenues above $18 billion, Murphy USA’s scale, operational expertise, and multi-format approach position it as a prominent and credible operator in the U.S. convenience retail and fuel landscape. All stores are company-owned, with no franchising, ensuring consistency and control across its expanding footprint.
