About Orscheln Farm and Home
Orscheln Farm and Home began in 1960, when W.C. Orscheln opened the first store in Sedalia, Missouri. Over the following decades, the company established itself as a reliable source for farm supplies, animal feed, hardware, lawn and garden products, and workwear, serving small farmers and rural homeowners throughout the Midwest. By October 2022, Orscheln Farm and Home had grown to 165 stores, with a footprint spanning Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.
A pivotal moment in the company’s history came in October 2022, when Tractor Supply Company, the nation’s largest rural lifestyle retailer, completed its acquisition of Orscheln Farm and Home. This transition marked the end of Orscheln’s independent expansion. Since the acquisition, most Orscheln locations have been rebranded as Tractor Supply stores, and the remaining Orscheln-branded sites are expected to complete their transition by late 2025. Tractor Supply has used Orscheln’s established real estate footprint to selectively open new stores in rural and exurban markets, maintaining a steady growth posture in secondary and tertiary areas.
For landlords, brokers, and developers, the Orscheln legacy now lives on through Tractor Supply’s continued investment in large-format retail sites across the Midwest and beyond. The brand’s evolution over the past five years—from independent operator to part of a national retail leader—reflects broader consolidation trends in rural retail. Orscheln’s longstanding credibility and regional expertise have contributed to a seamless integration, supporting Tractor Supply’s ongoing focus on serving agricultural communities and rural lifestyles. Today, legacy Orscheln contacts typically report to Tractor Supply’s real estate leadership, ensuring continuity for partners and stakeholders involved in site selection and development.
