About Shi by Journeys
Shi by Journeys was established in 2005 by Genesco Inc. as a specialty retailer focused on footwear and accessories for women and teens with a taste for contemporary fashion. The brand was designed to complement Genesco’s broader retail portfolio by offering a boutique-style shopping experience, featuring curated selections of shoes, handbags, and accessories that catered to trend-driven customers. Shi by Journeys quickly grew its presence in major shopping malls across the United States, and by 2012, operated more than 100 stores nationwide, often in high-traffic retail corridors.
As of December 2018, Shi by Journeys had ceased all expansion, with Genesco winding down both its physical and online operations. This decision was driven by declining mall traffic and a strategic shift to focus on Genesco’s core brands. The last stores closed in late 2018, and the brand’s digital presence was discontinued soon after. Over its lifespan, Shi by Journeys stood out for its ability to attract young female shoppers and drive incremental traffic in mall environments, offering a differentiated assortment compared to its parent brand.
Shi by Journeys’ evolution reflects broader changes in the retail landscape, including the challenges faced by specialty concepts as consumer preferences shifted and e-commerce gained traction. Today, all real estate matters related to the former Shi by Journeys locations are managed by Genesco’s corporate real estate team. The brand’s social media channels remain accessible for historical reference, but are no longer active.
