About Sprint
Sprint Corporation, founded in 1899 as the Brown Telephone Company, evolved into one of America's most significant telecommunications providers. Over more than a century, the company transformed from its telephone roots into a major wireless carrier, building a national reputation for aggressive pricing, substantial network investments, and early adoption of emerging technologies like 4G LTE and unlimited data plans.
A defining moment came in 2005 when Sprint merged with Nextel Communications, temporarily positioning the combined company as the nation's third-largest wireless carrier. The integration proved challenging, however, and Sprint struggled with network consolidation and customer retention through the following decade. When Marcelo Claure took the helm as CEO in 2014, he implemented a stabilization strategy that restored financial discipline and reignited subscriber growth.
As of March 2020, Sprint maintained a substantial retail footprint of approximately 4,000 locations across all 50 states, with particular concentration in major metropolitan markets. This network included both company-owned stores and authorized dealer locations, each offering wireless devices, accessories, and service plans to consumers nationwide. For commercial real estate professionals, Sprint represented a stable, high-traffic tenant with proven operational scale and national presence.
In April 2020, Sprint completed its merger with T-Mobile US, Inc., marking a strategic consolidation driven by the need for greater scale and accelerated investment in 5G infrastructure. The transaction ended Sprint's existence as an independent brand. Following the merger, Sprint's retail locations, operations, and workforce were systematically integrated into T-Mobile's broader network and brand architecture. Today, Sprint operates as a legacy brand within T-Mobile, with its former headquarters in Overland Park, Kansas now functioning as a regional office. All customer-facing operations, billing, and retail activity are managed by T-Mobile US, and the Sprint brand is no longer active in the marketplace.
