WellStreet Urgent Care is a physician-led urgent care company that operates walk-in clinics focused on non-emergency medical needs. Founded in 2011 by an emergency medicine physician and partners, the business was built around the idea of bringing more consistency and professionalism to retail urgent care, with standardized clinical practices and a focus on convenient, modern locations.

The company’s early growth centered on metro Atlanta, where it partnered with Piedmont Healthcare in 2014 to create Piedmont Urgent Care. That joint venture became a defining milestone, consolidating a group of existing clinics under a unified platform and aligning them with a major health system. Over time, Piedmont became the exclusive health system partner for WellStreet’s Atlanta-area clinics, giving the network stronger payer relationships and deeper integration into the local care continuum.

Rather than franchising, WellStreet has expanded by forming joint ventures with regional health systems. In 2019, it entered South Carolina through Prisma Health Urgent Care by WellStreet, taking over and expanding Prisma’s urgent care footprint in the Upstate region. These partnerships allow local health system brands to remain front and center while WellStreet handles operations, staffing, technology, and site development.

As of October 2023, the combined Piedmont Urgent Care by WellStreet network includes more than 60 clinics across Georgia, with additional Prisma Health Urgent Care by WellStreet locations in South Carolina. The company continues to add both new build-to-suit clinics and converted sites, primarily in suburban and infill corridors across the Southeast.

WellStreet’s clinics are typically small-footprint, single-tenant spaces in retail or neighborhood centers, with clear visibility, good parking, and easy access. They are designed to serve as accessible points of care between primary offices and hospital emergency departments, open extended hours and staffed to treat common injuries, illnesses, and occupational health needs.

The company remains independent and is actively pursuing additional health system partnerships to support further expansion. Its model of integrating acquired clinics, standardizing operations, and aligning with established health systems suggests continued interest in both new development and selective conversions in markets where it already has a presence.
