Sub shop Jersey Mike’s is coming to 1515 Hewitt Drive, which is just next to the new Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers. The building permit was issued for finish-out work at the location.

Jersey Mike's Subs started out as a single shop at Point Pleasant in New Jersey. It attracted vacationers from Philadelphia, New York and Washington, D.C. Some diners urged founder Peter Cancro to open locations in their home towns. In this process it started growing. In 2015, for the second year in a row, it was named as the fastest growing among the Nation's Restaurant News Top 100. However the opening date has still not been revealed.

A lot of development is being witnessed around the area of South Fifth, Sixth and Seventh streets and Interstate 35. It is coming up with restaurants and retail establishments going up after bulldozers clear land. The Whataburger chain has a restaurant at 728 S. Seventh Street, right in the middle of what’s going on near Baylor University. At the rear of its business location, it has a secured piece of land which was once used as parking space for teachers at the old Sul Ross Elementary School campus that Dallas-based Leon Capital Group demolished.

Building permits of note issued by the city of Waco inspection services department include:- Vision Pharmaceuticals, also known as Allergan, renovation of the first and second floors of its complex at 8301 Mars Drive, $7.5 million. Mandarin Express restaurant, Richland Mall, 6001 W. Waco Drive,  interior remodel, $275,000.
