Business Profile:

KFC was founded over 70 years ago (1952, to be exact) by none other than Colonel Harland Sanders with his now famous recipe, and appropriately named, “Original Recipe” for fried chicken.  Still based in their place of inception, Louisville, Kentucky, KFC is now regarded as the “world’s most popular chicken restaurant chain, specializing in Original Receipt ®, Extra Crispy ™, Kentucky Grilled Chicken ® and Extra Crispy ™ Tenders with home-style sides, Hot Wings ™ pieces and freshly made chicken sandwiches,” (KFC.com).  Within the first twelve years, the company had grown to 200 locations and only a year later, in 1963, had more than doubled locations to 600.  Fifteen years into their journey, KFC had become the "sixth largest restaurant chai by sales volume in the U.S.," according to SuccessStory.com.  By 1970, KFC had spread to over 40 countries and had 3,000 outlets.

In 1997, Yum! Brands took ownership and worked to expand menu options to include more sides, desserts and recipes as well as locations.  KFC has since grown to over 20,000 restaurants through 125 countries, and, according to their website, “[there’s] still a cook in a kitchen in every last one of them, freshly preparing delicious, complete family meals at affordable prices.”  KFC is now lead by CEO Muktesh Pant.

Although KFC is an international brand, they take pride in serving the local communities and enriching the lives within them.  One of the ways they help out local communities is through the Add Hope program.  Add Hope is a program that works to “end hunger through fundraising and active partnerships with the United Nations World Food Programme and numerous local hunger organizations around the world,” (yum.com).
