Dunmore Dentist Jim Sirotnak is bringing Jersey Mike's Sub, a hoagie chain to Northwest Pennsylvania. The third store that he plans to open in Dickson City in October, the others ones at Bartonsville which opened in December and a Wilkes-Barre shop that opened in June.
The new shop is slated to open in mid-October with seating arrangements between 35 to 50 people. Mr Sirotnak says that the area being a big sub area he felt a need for a premium sub shop.
During a vacation at Myrtle Beach with his family in 2009 he visited his first Jersey's Mike. After a busy day, exhausted and hungry, he and his family did not want a formal sit-down restaurant so they came across Jersey's Mike which they felt was the best sub shop they had ever been to. Â
At that time Jim Sirotnak was working between three offices which made his life hectic and he thought it was a good idea to switch gears. After giving it a thought and a few years of research, he decided to become a Jersey's Mike franchisee.
His business has been doing well and his Bartonsville store was the fourth top- grossing in the nation. In 2015, the restaurant analytics group Technomic and Nation's Restaurant News both identified Jersey's Mike as the fastest- growing restaurant chain. The first Jersey Mike's opened in 1956 in Point Pleasant, New Jersey and operated as a single privately owned store. In 1972, Peter Cancnro, a 17 year old part time employee, purchased the stores and after a few years opened a few local outlets. In 1987 Jersey Mike's began franchising.
The shop's uniqueness and distinction lies in the fact that here the slicing of meat for sandwiches is done as per each order than the other quick serve sandwich shops. Bread is baked in the store itself and beef tops rounds are trimmed, tied and cooked in the store. The store contributes its success to its Olive Oil, Herb Blend, Vinegar and Red Wine.
The Dickson City store will help push Jersey Mike's above the 1,000-restaurant mark this year, said Jersey Mike's spokeswoman Josephine Capozzi. Another 500 are under development and will be coming up in some time.
